Before we can search for love from others, we first must fall in love with ourselves. I’m sure you’ve heard that one before. Did you write it off as fluffy, or did you embrace it whole-heartedly?
Self-love has TOTALLY transformed my life, and I’d love if you’d open up to the concept even more today, and hear me out. EVERY relationship in your life just might reap the rewards.
Taking care of ourselves is at the forefront of social media and I’ve hopped on that wagon, picked up the drums and started swaying to the beat of my own heart. You too, might feel the pull to do this! I certainly hope you do.
Shifting into a space where you are always generating from a place of love might seem scary. You may be faced with a little push back when you start embracing this part of you. Whether from within (you know that nasty little voice that says “you aren’t good enough”) or from an outside source. I’m here to assure you that as you dive deeper into what it is that makes you happy, your life will transform into one that flows with ease and grace. You’ll start to feel gratitude towards the small things and opportunities will appear that you never thought possible. As we shift our awareness and open our arms to the energy of the Universe, it responds.
Cultivating self-love takes time, patience and a constant awareness of oneself to push past the never-ending chatter in our mind. The mean girl, the ego, the other you – whatever you want to name it will always exist. It is there to keep us safe and from stepping into fear.
Leaning into fear means breaking down the barriers and beliefs we have guarded for so long to keep us in a false sense of security. It means pushing past these limiting thoughts about yourself and letting your true essence shine through.
You are the co-creator of your world.
To start making that shift, one of the first things you can do is start to build a foundation of self-love.
Here are some of the ways I’ve been able to create a little more love for myself. If you feel a pull to one idea, start there. If you’re not sure where to begin, just know that you already have by choosing to read this article. The seed has been planted, the curiosity peaked. You have answered the call for love.
- SET UP AN OASIS IN THE BATH:
Light the candles, dim the lights and romance yourself. Epsom salts and lavender essential oils are a wonderful addition to a warm bath. This is a great way to unplug and breathe. Another great idea is to try out a FLOAT TANK – talk about 90 minutes of bliss!
- DELVE INTO A PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT BOOK:
There are many on the market. Some great authors to look into are: Gabrielle Bernstein, Lewis Howes, Melissa Ambrosini, and Brene Brown.
- MAKE YOUR PLACE SACRED:
Set up a corner of your home or room into a spot where you feel Zen. Decorate it with your favourite items, plants, pictures and books.
- TREAT YO’SELF TO A MASSAGE OR ENERGY HEALING SESSION:
Reiki is a fantastic way to get your energy healing on! Have a spa day and get yourself a facial or pedicure. Check out Groupon if you are low on funds. They always have deals nearby.
- TAKE YOURSELF ON A DATE:
Do you have a favourite lunch spot? Activity? Go out and do it on your own. Get dressed up and take yourself out for dinner and movie. Enjoy a glass of wine and have fun!
- BE IN NATURE:
Go for a walk, listen to the birds and watch the sunset
There is no better way to get in check with yourself then spending a few quiet moments alone. If you are new to meditating, check out Headspace !
Whether local or abroad. Write up a list of places you would like to see and start putting away .05% of your income per month. Make this your travel fund and start planning your solo adventure. Read “3 Lessons I Learned by Traveling Solo” to get amped up.
- NOURISH YOUR BODY:
Flood your system with nutritious and delicious food! Learn how your body responds to the way you eat and how different foods affect you. Your microbiome is an important part of this deal. When our gut health is in check our body will properly absorb the nutrients we consume through our food. Flooding your system with superfoods and good sources of pre/probiotics will improve your digestion and help you shed unnecessary weight by realising toxins built up in your cells. “Yes, You Should Eat Fermented Foods.” Is a great place to start learning about ferments.
- JOURNAL AND DIVE DEEP INTO YOUR PSYCHE:
Check out my past blog on “Beginner Hacks to Journalling.”
- FOLLOW POSITIVE INFLUENCERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA:
The people we surround ourselves with, we become! If you scroll past an image that causes you to make judgments stop and ask, “Is this how I want to feel?” More than likely not, and it’s okay to unfollow. By unfollowing, you give that person permission to begin showing up authentically, rather than hiding behind the masks society has taught them to put on.
This list could go on and I’m sure you will find things to add to it. This self love journey is your own! Try out new things and keep the ones that make you feel free to be YOU!
When you DO add something new to your self-love list, hit me up on Instagram @jiexieg. I just might want to add your new spin on self-love to my practice.
Love ya, babes and dudes! Here’s to deepening ALL of our relationships – beginning with our relationship to ourselves!
Light and Love,
